Dogs that have crossed the rainbow bridge

Sometimes animals leave us, some of them before their time. They are in a better place now and will be remembered as the lovely and innocent creatures they were.

Lucia

Lucia was found on the side of the road, so frail that the people who found her didn't even know at first if she was still alive. They brought her to the local market where she picked up after being hydrated. A little girl took a shine to her and after a pledge by the community to help financing Lucia's sterilisation, the family of the little girl took her on.

Unfortunately, Lucia did not survive the second night but at least she did not die on her own on some roadside. Lucia brought the community together around her in a matter of a few hours and everyone was really sad that she didn't make it through. But in the end, her new family ended up adopting two kittens who had been abandoned in a cardboard box. If there is such a thing as heaven, Lucia will be looking down on them with a purr...

Luana

Everything was going well for Luana. She had recovered well from her sterilisation while staying in a lovely foster home and she was due to be vaccinated and chipped in order to go to Holland where people were waiting to take her into foster care. But then she suddenly fell ill and died within 24h from liver failure.

Her death came as a shock to everyone because she had been doing so well. Rest in peace, lovely one. We are really sorry you weren't able to enjoy the better life we had envisaged for you.

Mona

Mona came to the kennel with a mamma tumor. Because there are no financial means to treat dogs for anything serious, she was eventually sent to the intermunicipal kennel in Proença-a-Nova in order to be put to sleep.

Yeda

Yeda was a gentle character with unusually beautiful looks. We do not quite know what happened to her, she was found dead early August. The fact that the dogs do not get fed at week-ends at the kennel has certainly something to do with it. We are working hard to change that situation.

Lotta

Lotta was bitten to death by the other dogs in her kennel. It was August 15th, a holiday, which means that the dogs were not fed. The kennel situation is a stressful one to begin with but when the dogs are hungry, they are even more on edge and sometimes, one of them becomes the victim of the pack instinct.

We are very sad that Lotta had to meet with such an end. She had just turned from a skinny little pup to a beautiful young dog. Once again, this spurs us on to do our best to get this situation changed.
